Research

The research foci of my students and I span from the natural geological laboratory of western South America to the utilization of New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia’s Paleozoic strata to find more environmentally benign ways to meet society’s needs for energy. Ongoing projects span from geothermal energy in the Appalachian foreland basin, to the responses of the surface and groundwater resources to rare rain events in the Atacama Desert, to climate history and tectonic uplift of the northern Chile forearc.
